Blame your carpal tunnel on technology? Tech Insider reports that a comprehensive review of scientific literature found that it has not been possible to show an association between computer use and CTS.
Aaron Daluiski, MD, a hand and upper extremity surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery, agrees and notes that the pain that people report from using computers and smartphones could turn out not to be carpal tunnel after all. According to Dr. Daluiski, some of his patients come in thinking they have carpal tunnel when in fact it's another issue like tendinitis, arthritis or a ganglion cyst.
However, using technology more excessively these days could be exasperating an existing case of carpal tunnel. Dr. Daluiski shares image guides on the correct way to use a computer mouse.
